Winter 2024 Newsletter: Pianist Katy Luo's "53 Haydn" Zen Training Event

On October 13, professional pianist and Chozen-ji student Katy Luo played all 53 of composer Joseph Haydn's complete and known sonatas for piano. All in all, it took about 14 hours. This is the first time that someone is documented as having played all 53 sonatas in one day. This was an amazing feat of concentration, pushing the limits of music and human stamina.

Chozen-ji created a short video about the event, as well as a 13-hour recording of Katy playing all 53 sonatas that will be released soon.

Katy Luo is a pianist and lecturer in music at the University of Hawaii West Oahu who frequently performs with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. She began training at Chozen-jis in 2021.
